Magic missile is a low level spell that is fast to cast and has no saving throw.  Magic missile is often learned early in magic classes that get it but that does not mean it is useless at high levels.  It is one of the fastest casting spells in the mud and has no save so for difficult mobs with lots of resists it is still a viable option.
