Newbie Help

Welcome to Mystical MUD and thank you for choosing to try it out!
Mystical MUD is unlike any other MUD. It has thirteen single classes, and
there are five more unique classes that have set combinations of dual
and tri-classes. As for races, there are 40 available in total! And
Mystical MUD boasts a great remort system allowing you to move onto
more powerful races as you progress. Another major advantage is that
we have REAL-TIME HEALING, no more waiting 30-90 seconds to heal or gain
that last bit of mana needed to cast a spell like you have to on other
muds! We also have a great team of quest immortals to provide you with
regular quests involving role-playing and lots of fun. Other notable
features include the ability to start and run your own clan or join an
existing one, the 100s of skills and spells between the classes, the
option to partake in player-killing (PK) activities, and over 15000
rooms to explore! So are you ready to join us in Mystical yet? :)
NEWBIE HELP - COMMANDS FOR EASIER PLAYING

Here are a list of commands you should type in if you haven't already,
they'll make your playing experience a lot easier. You don't need to
understand exactly what they do just now, but if you want to get a detailed
description of what they do, just use the 'help' command. For instance, to
get help on toggle, you'd type 'help toggle'.

'display all' - This gives you a better indication of your status, if there
is junk for your status prompt this should fix it
'toggle exits' - Displays exits from the room at the bottom of the screen
'toggle autoloot' - You'll automatically loot your enemy's corpse of items
'wimpy 20' - Will make you flee at 20% health, saving you many deaths
'color complete' - Exactly what it says, color makes the place brighter if
                    your computer supports it.
NEWBIE HELP - HOW TO MOVE AROUND

In Mystical there are 6 basic directions you can move in: east, west,
north, south, up and down. Funnily enough, the commands to move in those
directions are the same as I just listed, or you can shorten them to just
the first letter which is likely all you'll do before long. So to go east,
you would simply type 'east' or 'e' and if the room you are in has an
eastern exit, then you'd move that way.

So how do you view whether a room has an exit in the direction you want
to go? Well an easy way is just to type 'exits' which displays a list of
the room's exits and where they lead to. You can also type 'look' to look
at the room you're in and the exits are listed in short form below the room.
(if the exits aren't there, look at 'help easier') This is the most
convenient way to see the exits in a room.
NEWBIE HELP - HOW TO COMMUNICATE

Communication is an important factor in any environment, and in Mystical
players can communicate with each other using channels. There are many
channels within Mystical, each of which behaves differently. Type HELP
CHANNELS, to see a list of them. You'll also need to get help on the who
command. Two other commands you'll want to get help on are 'emote' and
'socials'.

NEWBIE HELP - TRAVELLING

Here are some various facts about travelling, we hope you might find
them handy.

SPEEDWALKING

You have already learned that you can abbreviate directions to n e s w d
or u. Once you have explored Mystical you will learn how to get to your
favorite areas and then can make a string with directions taking you
directly there in a very quick length of time. For instance swww or s3w
would take you one room south, then 3 west.

WALKING, LEVITATION AND FLYING

There are many forms of transportation at Mystical, the most common
and the best for learning is walking. However, just plain walking
won't be able to get you across water or over rocky mountains. So it's
lucky that walking can be enhanced to levitation or flying with spells
or magical potions. Flying is the best way to travel as it allows you
to go to places that walking and levitation don't. Look in the help
files to see exactly what each movement method will do for you.

MAPS AND SIGNPOSTS

To learn what areas you can go to there are maps provided. To find
your way around a major town just type 'help (name of town)'. For
instance, typing 'help sundhaven' will give you a map of Sundhaven. Maps
to the outlying areas can be bought in the towns at the general store if
you haven't already bought one at the newbie stores. Don't expect them
to be completely accurate though as new areas are added occasionally and
the maps are a pain to update! Once you've looked at the map and know
the general area where you want to go, there are plenty of signposts
around to help you find you way there.

AREA WARNINGS

All combat areas have "warning text" that displays when you enter
the area. If you have color on it'll be vibrant white text on a red
background. This warning text sums up what chance the area's designer
thinks you have at your level. Whilst they mightn't always be very
accurate, if the warning text for an area indicates that you don't have
a chance you should trust it and find somewhere else to do battle for
the time being. Likewise, if it says you will find a good challenge
there, or that you're too powerful for the area, it's probably correct
on those too.

TRANSPORTATION SPELLS

There are also spells that some players will gain at higher levels,
like 'relocate' and 'portal', that can be used to immediately get to
another player or to a specific location. If you are grouped with
someone who has the 'summon' spell and you somehow get seperated from
your group, they can cast the 'summon' spell to get you back. However,
please DO NOT publicly ask for someone to summon or portal you just to
get somewhere you could easily walk.
NEWBIE HELP - DYING

DYING IS PERFECTLY NORMAL

For those of you out there who have never played a mud before and are
panicking just thinking about dying, calm down! It's a perfectly normal
occurrence and for some people happens multiple times each day! Dying
on Mystical, like on many other muds, doesn't cause severe problems for
your character. If all goes well, then all you lose is a large amount of
xp, and nothing else.

HOW YOU CAN DIE

There are two main ways you can die in Mystical. The first is death
in combat, which is the usual way. This of course happens when you
tackle a mob that's too tough for you (remember to always 'consider' new
mobs!), or you just get worn down by too many adversaries. The
second way to die is by walking into special rooms lovingly known as
death traps, or DT's for short. These rooms usually have warnings in
the descriptions of the surrounding rooms, and there are spells and
skills that'll help you detect them. Even so, they still claim lives.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE

Well the first thing you'll notice is that you'll be dumped back into
the main menu, with a message displaying how much xp you lost. This
will likely be confusing for a while, but you should get used to it.
You can now re-enter Mystical in the same way you usually would. You'll
enter at the temple of your hometown with 1 Hp and the same amount of Mn
and Mv that you died with. Also any maintained spells will have been
dispelled.

If you died by walking into a DT, you'll find that your body has
retained all of it's possessions by the will of the immortals. However
if you died in combat then you have a tougher task ahead, for your
corpse along with most of your possessions lies out in the place where
you died! If you remember where your corpse is and think you can get it
safely, then go ahead and try, else you'll need to ask for a CR (corpse
retrieval). NEW! A Corpse Keeper has taken residence in New Thalos. You
may ask him to do the CR for you, though he may charge you a fair sum of
gold for his services.

ASKING FOR CR'S

A CR is simply asking someone to get your corpse if you can't find
the way to it, or you died in a really tough area. Just state on OOC
that you need a CR done, and most of the players will know what you're
talking about. If you're lucky, a sympathetic soul will heed your plea
and try to help you. Try to remember the area where you died as it can
greatly speed retrieval efforts. If another player finds your corpse,
they'll return it to you promptly and you can retrieve your belongings
by typing 'get all corpse'. Don't worry about others trying to loot
your corpse, it's quite impossible for anyone but yourself to loot your
own corpse.
