In-game description:

This tall thin man is wrapped in a black robe, signifying him as one of the greatest mages currently alive.

Raistlin is the powerful wizard who calls New Thalos his home. He has a brother in town named Caramon. Raistlin can and will cast Maelstrom which is an area-of-effect spell which will kill lower level players so be careful where you fight him.
